We don’t know when it happened but somewhere along the way we lost our odometer. It just stopped rolling even though we didn’t. I didn’t notice and honestly didn’t care as long as we were moving.
It seems to be a pretty common issue with older buses that the soldier points on the dash panel come loose or break off. It can cause issues like we’ve had like no odometer, lights not working and our ever present ABS warning light that has burned for the 5 years we’ve had the bus.
Now, it’s not hard to do, it’s just labor. A simple solder job on all the points on the back of the board would be ideal but if you need to pinpoint your issue I’ve had luck talking with local International service centers. There are also schematics that can be found online.
Another option is to find a refurbished board that has been resoldered and tested. I’ve found units on eBay that seem right for the cost. It may cost a bit more but if you’re not comfortable doing it yourself it’s a great option. Or you may just be able to find someone local to do the solder work for you.
Time and the decaying infrastructure of the US did quite a number on our bus over the years and we’ve had issues come up that effect driving it. Since we won’t be moving for a bit it gives us time to take care of these issues before moving on again.
